Minnesota Athletic Club Announces Exciting Facility Upgrade
The Minnesota Athletic Club (MAC) is thrilled to announce a major facility enhancement that will benefit athletes, families, and the broader community. In response to the growing demand for high-quality ice facilities, we have reached an agreement to repurpose our facility to accommodate a brand-new ice rink. This project will provide a valuable and much-needed resource for local hockey players and the broader community, ensuring more opportunities for year-round development and competition.
As part of this transition, the MAC Hockey program will utilize the new rink, enhancing training and game experiences for our athletes. Meanwhile, our lacrosse program continues to thrive, proudly rooted in the east metro as our home base while expanding its reach across the region.
This decision strengthens MAC’s commitment to delivering top-tier athletic programming. By evolving to meet the needs of our athletes and community, we are positioning MAC to be an even stronger resource for youth sports development.
We appreciate the support of our families, players, and partners as we take this exciting step forward. Stay tuned for further updates on the project and programming details.

Woodbury ICE LLC is excited to announce the addition of a new ice sheet at the current MAC Lacrosse facility, located at 2122 Wooddale Dr, Woodbury, MN. This project is a collaboration between Jake, Ryan, Gabe, Mike, and Sally Guentzel, Scott Meyer of Prime Hockey, and Chad Alexander of Sieben Polk Law Firm, who are partnering with MAC (Minnesota Athletic Club) owners Rich Limpert and Terry Griffith to bring expanded hockey opportunities to the local community.
The project is being financed in partnership with Bridgewater Bank, supporting the long-term vision to enhance hockey infrastructure and development opportunities in the East Metro.
The new rink, known as Woodbury Ice at THE MAC, is set to open by October 1, 2025, helping to meet the increasing demand for ice time among multiple local hockey associations. This addition will provide much-needed winter ice availability while enhancing player development through specialized programming and training opportunities.
“We’re proud to be partnering with Woodbury ICE to bring a new sheet of ice to our facility, it’s a major win for the community. MAC Hockey will be on the ice from day one, and we’re honored to be part of a team that’s building something lasting for local players and their families,” said Limpert, MAC COO.
Beyond meeting winter ice needs, Woodbury Ice at MAC will offer a variety of in-season and off-season training programs, giving local players access to elite skill development both on and off the ice. The facility will feature on-ice training, off-ice performance training, and year-round development programs tailored to hockey players of all ages and skill levels.
“Growing up in Minnesota, I know how important access to ice time and quality training is for young players. This project is about giving back to the community and creating opportunities for the next generation to develop their skills in a first-class environment. I'm proud to be part of something that supports the growth of hockey in Woodbury and beyond,” said Jake Guentzel.
Scott Meyer, owner of Prime Hockey, will oversee many of the on-ice training programs at Woodbury Ice, bringing his experience in player development to the day-to-day programming and training operations.
In addition, Eric Edhlund of Eddieland Sports will assist in managing rink operations and facility logistics. “We’re looking forward to working with Eric Edhlund of Eddieland Sports, who brings over 20 years of professional ice arena experience,” said Meyer.
Eric’s extensive background includes operational leadership at St. Paul Academy, the Super Rink in Blaine, and the Tartan/North St. Paul arenas, making him a valuable addition to the team overseeing the facility’s performance and customer experience.
A Commitment to Growing Hockey in Minnesota
The addition of this ice sheet is just the beginning of Woodbury ICE LLC's long-term vision. The group has set ambitious goals to expand access to ice in Woodbury, helping to meet the ever-growing demand for high-quality training and competition spaces. Future expansion plans include additional ice sheets in Woodbury and exploring opportunities to bring new rinks to other communities in need of more ice time.
“This is just the beginning. Our vision is to create more access to high-quality ice and training across the East Metro and beyond. We know how strong the demand is, not just for ice time, but for development opportunities that help players at every level reach their full potential. We're excited about what this means for the future of hockey in Minnesota,” said Ryan Guentzel.
This project reflects a shared commitment to growing the game of hockey in Minnesota. By increasing access to ice time and high-quality training, Woodbury Ice at THE MAC and future developments will help support the next generation of hockey players and create a premier destination for year-round hockey development.
